Charlottesville Welcome Book Winter 2016

Brewery Tours & Tastings

Thomas Jefferson wrote, “I am lately become a brewer for family use”; he took great pleasure in crafting his own beer at Monticello. And the tradition continues. Charlottesville's love of locally crafted beer thrives at our, award-winning microbrewers like Starr Hill, Devil's Backbone, South Street, Wild Wolf and Blue Mountain breweries. Here you can enjoy tours, beer tastings, live music and festivals. A local cidery uses Jefferson’s favorite apple, the Albemarle Pippin, to create its hard cider, rounding out the range of local, artisanal beverages. Be sure to visit the following breweries on your next trip to Charlottesville.

Starr Hill Brewery

Starr Hill Brewery is one of the most award-winning breweries on the East Coast. Located just 10 miles west of Charlottesville in the rolling foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the newly renovated Tap Room is open Wednesday through Sunday, featuring pints and growlers of 16 rotating beers on a state-of-the-art draft system, free brewery tours on Saturdays and Sundays, live music, and local food trucks.
